Approach to Sustainability

Environmental Subcommittee

The Environmental Subcommittee implements initiatives to ensure legal compliance, including environmental laws and regulations, reduce emissions of environmentally hazardous substances, and survey the activities of other companies in the industry.

In FY2024.6, we confirmed compliance with environmental laws and regulations, including the Energy Conservation Act, we are working to achieve the statutory target of improving the energy consumption intensity by 1% or more on an annual average basis at the facilities designated as Type 2 Specified Business Operators under the said act.

To reduce environmental impact, we compared Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions at each site with the previous period and began calculating Scope 3 GHG emissions from categories expected to have high emissions related to our business. We are discussing future challenges and the effectiveness of implemented measures not only within our group but also throughout the entire supply chain.

The "Eco-Life Promotion Team," an internal body encouraging each employee to be more aware of environmental issues in their daily life, has created own logo and promoted various initiatives. In FY2024.6, we continued our efforts to promote eco-mindful lifestyle by reducing the use of paper towels, donating plastic bottle caps, recycling plastic document folders, managing refrigerator temperature settings, posting reminders about air conditioning temperatures settings to encourage energy conservation, and participating in the "Earth Hour" 2024 campaign. Additionally, we launched a "Wanted/Giveaway" bulletin board to promote reuse, encouraged discussions on environmental conservation, and introduced activities such as sharing eco-bags and providing loaner umbrellas.

Moving forward, we will set targets and work towards reducing GHG emissions.

TCFD Subcommittee (TCFD=Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures)

The TCFD subcommittee conducts various surveys and studies to develop management strategies using TCFD framework and works to put the action plans into practice aimed at improving corporate value.

Work Style Reform Subcommittee

The Work Style Reform Subcommittee promotes measures for employees to improve productivity and create innovation, aiming at realizing a sustainable society and improving corporate value. Specifically, we are creating workplace environment that helps employees to keep healthy balance of childcare and nursing care with their work while also pursuing their growth.

In FY2024.6, employee-led small assemblies established at each group company as a secondary group of the Work Style Reform Subcommittee took the lead in carrying our activities that closely aligned with the needs of employees at each workplace. Meetings for exchanging opinions between small assemblies and the HR department are regularly held to consider measures to improve employee engagement. Additionally, a working group led by managers has been launched to promote activities aimed at creating a better workplace environment across the entire group.

Workplace Environment

We provide a comfortable workplace environment by enhancing our hiring, training and evaluation systems that respect the diversity and flexibly adjusting the work systems, with the aim of the realization of workplace diversity.

In FY2024.6, in addition to the "buddy team", which is composed of members from different companies within our group, we actively promoted initiatives based on employee ideas. These initiatives included holding meetings aimed at facilitating inter-departmental communication and introducing a "Gratitude Points Program" to create a culture of mutual appreciation. Furthermore, to improve employees' living standards and address inflation, we implemented special bonuses and increased the average raise rate. By continuously adapting to internal and external changes, we will keep working on creating an environment where employees can work with peace of mind.

Employee Growth

We aim to develop human resources that respect diversity while supporting each employee's autonomous career development. We are promoting employee's growth based on the concept of "being capable to learn, think, use imagination, and overcome obstacles on one's own," which reflects our approach emphasizing not only knowledge but also action.

In FY2024.6, by clarifying the skill map, we have introduced a "Specialist Course" that enables employees to utilize their specialized skills, in addition to the existing "Management Course." Furthermore, in small assembly teams, we actively implemented suggestions from our employees, such as introducing a tutor system, organizing tours of other departments (operating sites), and promoting training based on engagement survey results. Moving forward, we aim to establish a human resource development program through collaboration between the HR department and small assembly teams.

SSCM Subcommittee(SSCM=Sustainability Supply Chain Management)

Recognizing that collaboration throughout the supply chain is an essential part to practice environmental conservation and proper and fair trade, the SSCM Subcommittee regularly conducts a questionnaire survey of suppliers in accordance with the Sustainable Procurement Policy. The questionnaire covers the topics such as compliance, quality, fair and equitable trade, environment, human rights, and information management.

We provide feedback on the survey results to individual suppliers and will continue to work with them and engage in sustainable supply chain management.

Social Contribution Activities

We are supporting our society through the donations to AfriMedico, Central Community Chest of Japan, the Naito Foundation, Japanese Red Cross Society, and Japan Committee for UNICEF. In FY2024.6, we launched our first group-wide matching donation challenge in response to the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake. We also sponsored the Hiratsuka Children's Festival, which was organized by "Tongaries," a group of teenagers. The event aimed to foster inclusive communication through festival activities, ensuring everyone could participate, reagardless of their hearing abilities.
